LANSING, Mich. - The Columbus State women's and men's cross country teams took first place in the NJCAA DIII Region XII meets held at the Grand Woods Park in Lansing on Saturday.
Columbus State's Stevie Shepherd won the 5k race for the second consecutive year with a time of 20:55.9. Finishing behind Shepherd was Laura Hill with a career-best 20:59.3 finish.
Elizabeth Finley came in third with a time of 21:39.5 while Alex Ortega also achieved a career-best 21:48.4. Emily Howard rounded out the Cougars' scoring with a 21:51.9 time. Madeline Bodie completed the Cougar lineup at the classic with a 24:31.0 finish.
Shepherd, Hill, Finley, Ortega, and Howard were named to the Region XII DIII All-Region team.
Freshman Cody Null was runner-up in the 8k race with a career-best time of 28:10.4. He was followed by Adam Glass, who finished fifth with a time of 29:18.3. Zach Leahy also recorded a career-best time of 30:56.3 and a top ten finish. Rounding out Columbus State's scoring was Jesus Davis and Thomas Shaw who finished with times of 31:23.4 and 31:27.3 respectively.
Null was named to the Region XII DIII All-Region team.
The NJCAA DIII National Championship will be held Sat, Nov. 12 in Canandaigua, New York.
