Cougar basketball teams aid in Flint water crisis

COLUMBUS, Ohio – On Saturday, December 3, the Columbus State men's and women's basketball teams arrived at Mott Community College in Flint, Michigan with gift cards, school supplies, and dozens of cases of water.

The contributions were directly delivered to Mott's athletic department who ensured it all would make it into the hands of those who have been affected by the water crisis.

The donations were accumulated after Stacey Little, an intern with the women's basketball team, saw an opportunity to embrace one of the fundamental values of the Columbus State athletics department: community outreach. In conjunction with the nationwide #GivingTuesday initiative, Little spearheaded a campaign to collect donations after she saw the teams were traveling to Mott for a doubleheader.

According to Mott Associate Athletic Director Al Perry, the funds have already been donated to the Community Foundation for Greater Flint's fund for children affected by the water crisis; and, the school supplies have been donated to the Weiss Child Advocacy Center.
