Men's and Women's Cross Country teams capture first place finishes

LANSING, Mich. - The Columbus State men's and women's cross country teams took first place in the NJCAA DIII Region XII meets held at the Grand Woods Park in Lansing on Sat, Oct. 31. 

Columbus State's Kunal Verma won the 8k men's race with a time of 28:08.6. He was followed by Sidney Campbell, who finished fifth with a time of 31:03.5. Lucas Collins recorded a career best time of 31:26.3 while Thomas Shaw clocked in at 32:04.2.

Jesus Davis (32:35.6), Kevin Chenault (35:01.5), and Abdi Bashir (40:26.5) rounded out Columbus State's top seven finishers.

For the women's team, Columbus State's Stevie Shepherd won the 5k race with a time of 20:55.1. Emily Howard followed Shepherd for a second place finish (21:42.2) while Halla Jones clocked in at seventh place with a time of 24:27.4. All three women achieved career bests at the meet.

Next up for Columbus State men's and women's teams is the NJCAA DIII National Championship on Sat, Nov 7 at Stanley Park in Westfield, Mass.
