COLUMBUS – The Columbus State Cougars defeated the Edison Chargers on Wednesday and the Lorain County Commodores on Saturday in consecutive home doubleheaders.
The women's team (12-1, 3-0 OCCAC) took down the Chargers on Wednesday with a score of 86-52. Kierstynn Myers (Westerville/Olentangy Orange HS) led the effort with 18 points, including four three pointers. Erinn Bailey (Dayton/Chaminade-Julienne HS) contributed 16 points and 7 rebounds while Bridget Geiger (Minster/Minster HS) and Jaslynn Rollins (Ypsilanti, MI/Lincoln HS) added 12 points apiece.
During the Saturday game against Lorain, Bridget Geiger's 22 points steered the Cougars to a 94-72 victory. Jasmine Junkins (Hilliard/Hilliard Bradley HS) and Whitney Donaldson (Morristown, TN/Morristown-Hamblen HS) tallied 15 points and 14 points respectively.
The men's team (7-9, 2-1 OCCAC) defeated the Chargers 84-68. Matthew Rhodes (Westerville/Westerville North HS), put up 31 points, including going 5-for-9 from beyond the arc. C.J. Crowder (Groveport/Groveport-Madison HS) and Jarel Woolridge (Akron/St. Vincent St. Mary HS) totaled 13 points apiece.
In the Lorain game on Saturday, the Cougars were led by Chris Cook (Canton/Timken HS), whose career-high 28 points aided in the 109-98 victory over the Commodores. Robert Caldwell (Dayton/Stivers School for the Arts) posted 18 points, shooting 50% (4-for-8) from behind the three point line. Matthew Rhodes contributed 17 points while Jarel Woolridge chipped in 15 points.
The Cougars hit the road on Wednesday to take on Sinclair Community College of Dayton. The women tip off at 5:30 p.m. and the men at 7:30 p.m.
