COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Columbus State men's basketball team (7-13, 2-5 OCCAC) lost by a single point to No. 14 Cincinnati State on the road Wednesday.

Matthew Rhodes (Westerville/Westerville North HS) was unstoppable with 28 points, hitting 7-for-10 from behind the arc. Lamarr Barnes (Columbus/Marion-Franklin HS) achieved his first career double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds while Robert Caldwell (Dayton/Stivers School for the Arts) contributed 15 points--all three pointers.

Although the Cougars averaged a higher shooting percentage than the Surge (18-5, 5-2 OCCAC), a buzzer beater ultimately gave Cincinnati State the win. The final score of the game was 84-85.

On Saturday, Lakeland defeated the Cougars with a score of 64-102. Matthew Rhodes led the Cougars with 17 points, shooting 5-for-9 in the three pointers. Rhodes and Christopher Cook (Canton/Timken HS) grabbed 8 rebounds apiece.

C.J. Crowder's (Groveport/Groveport Madison HS) versatility shone through during his 30 minutes on the floor. He sank 14 points, snatched six rebounds and tallied six assists and two steals.

Despite the valiant effort, the Cougars could not keep up with the No. 13 Lakers (16-5, 7-0 OCCAC).

The Cougars are back on the road Wednesday as they travel to conference rival Cincinnati State for a 7:30 tip.
