Cougars put up over 100 points to win Titan Tip off Tournament

MONACA, Penn. - The men's basketball team came away from the Titan Tip off Tournament last weekend with two wins against Mercyhurst North East and Jamestown-Cattaraugus. The tournament was hosted by the Community College of Beaver County.

In both games, the Cougars faced evenly matched squads, but played more quickly and cohesively. 

In Friday's game against Mercyhurst, six Cougars tallied double-digit points with Columbus State shooting an impressive 57.9% from behind the arc.

Sophomores Donte Smith and C.J. Crowder led the Navy & White with 19 points apiece. Smith shot 4-5 in three's and 5-5 at the free throw line while Crowder drove mostly inside, shooting 5-12 in total field goals and grabbing five rebounds.

Sophomore Robert Caldwell made 13 points for the Cougars, hitting three 3's while sophomores Kenneth Moore and Nic Williams and freshman Chris Byrd put up 12 points apiece.

The final score was 103-90.

In Saturday's tournament championship game against Jamestown, Chris Byrd sunk in 17 points, including a trio of 3's. C.J. Crowder totaled 16 points, four rebounds, and two steals while sophomore Travon Hester had 12 points and five rebounds.

Robert Caldwell and freshman Johnnie Robinson tallied 12 points, including four treys.

The final score was 100-76.
