COLUMBUS, Ohio - Freshman Chris Byrd led the Columbus State men's basketball team to a 77-64 win over Wayne County on Saturday afternoon in the team's home opener. Five players scored double digits points and two had double-doubles in the victory.
Leading by four points (40-36) at the half, the Cougars continued to rain three's from the sky, shooting 50% (10-of-20). Columbus State boosts its record to 4-2 this season.
Byrd scored his 19 points on 4-of-5 shooting from behind the arc and 2-of-3 from the field. He also grabbed four rebounds. Kenneth Moore and Lamarr Barnes each registered a double-double with 14 points, Moore with a game-high 10 assists and Barnes with 15 rebounds.
Nic Williams tallied 13 points on a 3-of-3 from the trey and 2 from the field. Williams narrowly missed a double-double with nine rebounds.
C.J. Crowder recorded 11 points and matched Moore with three steals.
The Cougars play their first doubleheader with the women on Wed, Nov 18 at 5:30 p.m.
