PIQUA, Ohio – The Columbus State men's basketball team concludes conference and regular season play with an 83-77 win against Edison on Saturday afternoon. The win places the Cougars (13-12, 10-6 OCCAC) in fourth place in the conference, behind Cincinnati State, Cuyahoga, and Owens.
Columbus State was up by two points at the half but managed to edge out the Chargers 46-42 in the second half.
Matthew Gierhart paced the offense with 20 points on 10-for-15 shooting from the field. Rodney Willis and Mario Young sunk in a combined 27 points before getting into foul trouble. Dylan Geig added ten points while Johnnie Robinson, Grant Dierksheide, and William Prater chipped in seven points apiece.
Robinson and Juwan Demmings dished out a team-high four assists each while Willis and Geig each had a trio of assists. Gierhart and Willis led the rebounding effort with a game-high seven boards while Geig pulled down five rebounds.
Next up for the Cougars is the Region XII DIII Championship game vs. Lorain County Community College (16-11, 7-9 OCCAC). Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m. at Ohio Christian University.
