Men’s basketball takes down #9 Lorain County

COLUMBUS, Ohio – With a solid inside game on Wednesday, the Columbus State men's basketball team (15-7, 9-4 OCCAC) grabbed a 103-74 win over the nationally-ranked Lorain County Community College. 

The Cougars sunk in 60 of their points in the paint and managed to pull down 61 rebounds against the Commodores. By comparison, Lorain County had 32points in the paint and 43 rebounds. Additionally, Columbus State converted 23 offensive rebounds into 28 points.

Mario Young led the game with 22 points on 9-for-15 shooting from the field and a perfect 4-for-4 at the line. Young also grabbed seven rebounds and had pair of assists, steals, and blocks.

Matthew Gierhart contributed 16 points and 11 boards for his fifth straight double-double. Anthony Butler scored his third career double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Malieck Evans came off the bench to add 14 points and five rebounds while Chris Byrd rounded out the double-digit scoring with 11 points. Both Evans and Bird dished out four assists.

Austin Bennett and Shamar Brown each tallied eight points and two steals. Zion Parham chipped in six points and pulled down seven rebounds while grabbing a team-high three steals.

Uchenna Ngene-Igwe drained a three-pointer and Jeremiah Fair-Harris and Ronald Fairrow rounded out the scoring with two points apiece. Fairrow matched Young with two blocks.

Columbus State is back in action on Wednesday, traveling to Cleveland to take on Cuyahoga. Tip-off is 6:30 p.m.
