Nationally-Ranked Cougars Earn Pair of Wins at Home Tri-Match

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Columbus State Community College volleyball team (8-2, 4-1 OCCAC) picked up two wins on Friday night in the Delaware Hall gymnasium. The Cougars swept Clark State (25-22, 25-15, 25-15) before defeating OU-Chillicothe in an action packed 3-1 matchup (25-27, 25-20, 31-29, 25-14).

Match 1: Columbus State 3, Clark State 0

Columbus State's balanced attack against the Eagles led to their three set sweep in Friday's first match. The Cougars executed 37 kills on 84 attempts for a season-high team .345 attack percentage. As a team, the Blue & White scooped up 59 digs and put up eleven blocks against DII conference team.

Morgan Danec paced the Cougars with a team high 14 kills on 26 swings for an impressive .423 attacking percentage. Allyse Rutter and Vicki Osborne ran the offense with a combined 26 assists with Rutter knocking down six kills on no errors for a .375 attack percentage. Abigail Lucas tallied five kills while Rachel Ralston added four in the effort.

Haley Litman registered 14 digs while Rutter and Ralston recorded ten and seven respectively. Olivia Dunham and Leah Conway each scooped up a half-dozen digs. 

Match 2: Columbus State 3, OU-Chillicothe 1

In a game of back-and-forth rallying, the Cougars dropped the first set to the Hilltoppers but rebounded to capture wins in the next three sets.

Allyse Rutter continued her hot streak with her third season triple-double: 14 kills, 19 assists, and tying her career-high of 21 digs. Abigail Lucas tied her career-best of 12 kills to go along with a solid .476 attack percentage. Morgan Danec matched Lucas' dozen kills while tying her career-best of nine digs. Vicki Osborne dished out 27 helpers in the offensive effort.

Haley Litman led the defense with 24 digs while Olivia Dunham and Leah Conway contributed 15 apiece, a career-best for Conway. Conway also logged seven kills while Rachel Ralston and Alaina Monroe chipped in five each.

The Cougars will be back in action this upcoming Wednesday, Sept. 13, when they travel to Piqua for a conference match-up against Edison. The match will start at 6:00 p.m.
