Volleyball Concludes the Week 1-1.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Columbus State Community College Volleyball Team finished the week 1-1 in back to back competition. On Tuesday, the Cougars traveled to Clark State Community College. The Cougars defeated the Eagles in four sets 3-1.  Last night, CSCC lost in five to the Challengers of Tri-C in a very competitive match up.

Match 1: Columbus State 3, Clark State 1

Columbus State's well-balanced attack against the Eagles led to their win in Tuesday's nights match against the Eagles. The Cougars executed 57 kills and dished out 52 total assists. As a team, the Blue & White scooped up 112 digs and put up 17 blocks against the Eagles.

Morgan Danec and Leah Conway led the Cougar's attack with 10 kills each. Danec was very efficient with a .300 attack percentage.  Allyse Rutter and Vicki Osborne ran the offense with a combined 32 assists with Rutter scooping up 21 Digs.  Abigail Lucas tallied nine kills while Alaina Monroe added 7 kills for a team high .357 attack percentage.

Haley Litman recorded 36 digs while Freshman Olivia Dunham had 18 digs and 1 kill with a rare attack attempt from the back row.

The final set scores were 25-27, 25-19, 25-18, 25-14.

Match 2: Cuyahoga 3, Columbus State 2

After traveling home with a win against the Clark State Eagles, the Cougars had little time to rest before preparing to face the Challengers of Cuyahoga Community College. The Cougars were up two sets to one but failed to put the Challengers away in set four. The Challengers rallied in the fifth and final set handing the Cougars their fourth conference loss.

Allyse Rutter led the Cougar attack with a team high .455 attack percentage. Freshmen Abigail Lucas and Georgia Payne help contribute offensively with seventeen total kills. As a team, the Cougars recorded 50 assists with three Lady Cougars registering double digit assists.

Rutter who recorded another triple double led the team with a team high 19 assists while Sophomores Vicki Osborne and Rachel Ralston tallied double digit assist of 13 and 10, respectively.

Sophomore Morgan Danec and Freshman Georgia Payne led the Cougars defensively with 5 blocks each.

The Lady Cougars will have some time to recoup before facing Hocking College on October 4th at home in a division III showdown. The Cougars swept the Hocking Hawks in their early season matchup.
