ELYRIA, Ohio – With the regional championship host site at stake, the Columbus State Cougars and Lorain County Commodores faced off in a conference battle on Saturday morning. The Cougars offense and defense at the net allowed them to prevail with a three set sweep (25-23, 25-18, 25-21). Columbus State improves to 9-6 in the OCCAC and 15-10 overall.
The Cougars outhit Lorain County 45 to 34 kills, led by Georgia Payne's team-high 10 kills. Morgan Danec had nine successful attacks, while Abigail Lucus added eight kills on 19 attempts. Sophomore, Alaina Monroe concluded her OCCAC player of the week performance by putting away 5 of 12 errorless attempts in the sweep of the Commodores.
Columbus State out-blocked the Commodores 10 to 2, led by Danec's match-high six blocks, one short of her career-best.
The game determined the location of the Region XII DIII championship game, which will be hosted by Columbus State on Fri, Oct. 27 at 6:00 p.m.
Next up for the Cougars is an away contest against Cuyahoga Community College on Wed, Oct. 25 at 6:00 p.m.
