RIO GRANDE, Ohio - Sophomore Patrick Ngene-Igwe led the Cougars to a lopsided victory on Wednesday night over the University of Rio Grande's JV squad. Columbus State defeated Rio by 54 points with a final score of 120-66 through a balance of accurate shooting and energetic defending.
Eight Cougars scored double-digit points and as a team shot 59.3%.
Ngene-Igwe finished with a double-double of 18 points and 20 rebounds as well as smacking down two blocks. Sophomores Donte Smith and Kenneth Moore scored 14 points apiece. Smith sunk in three 3-pointers and shot 100% from the line. Moore also added five rebounds and three steals.
Sophomores Nic Williams and Jeffery Powell poured in 13 points each while Robert Caldwell and Chris Byrd totaled 11 points for the Navy & White. Williams and Powell snatched six and three rebounds respectively while Caldwell stole three balls and Byrd two.
The Cougars (3-2) were up 24 by halftime (64-40) and dominated the second half (56-26) with bench players.
Columbus State opens up their home slate on Sat, Nov. 14 at noon against Wayne County.
