Mario Young has been a force for the Cougars since stepping on the court in the fall of 2016. He has been recognized at the national, regional, and conference levels for his outstanding athletic performance. With his leadership, the Cougars have set the bar high at the DIII level for competition. Recently, Young sunk a Christian Laettner-style buzzer beater to win the district championship and advance to the national tournament.

We sat down with Young to discuss his thoughts and experiences.

Question: What do you think about the team that will set you guys apart from the other teams?

Mario Young: "Our ability to get up the court, versatility, and strength coming off the bench".

Q: Tell us about your leadership style.

MY: Lead by example. Show the team how to do it and hope we can get the job done.

Q: Best victory of this season?

MY: The district final. That buzzer beater felt good.

Q: What were you thinking when the play was drawn out?

MY: This is something I've been waiting for.

Q: And you ran right over to your mom?

MY: It felt like a dream come true that my mom was there to see that.

Q: As a basketball player, what's the nicest compliment someone can pay you?

MY: He's honest and he's going to give it his all.

Q: What are your plans after basketball at Columbus State?

MY: Graduate at the end of the summer, transfer to a four year school and play professionally one day.
